About the Author. . . . . . .
I live in upstate NY - a place full of absolutely nationally revered fishing waters.  Even though our fishing season is cut short by pretty long, fairly brutal winters, the quality, variety, and agressiveness of the fish in our area is really second to none.
I am not a lifetime angler.  I have, after an absence of over 40 years, re-discovered the thrills, joys, excitement and plain un-adulterated passion of fishing.  That sounds pretty darn good doesn't it?  Well - it simply is.  Fishing and being out on the water reconnects you to who you are, what really makes you happy, and allows a lot of time for thinking - about anything and everything.  After a lifetime of dairy farming - which I was also very passionate about (no one works harder or longer than dairy farmers), we sold our cows and finally had a little time to do things - things other than work.
Fishing popped right up there as something we both loved to do - has to do with being outside, in natural settings (a lot like farming).  But being on the water is special in ways you will not understand until you start spending time on/near the water.
There are so many great fishing resources in Central NY.  I wanted to make a site that was friendly to families that maybe haven't yet enjoyed the great outdoors yet.  Cut to the chase.  You probably wonder what the bottom line is here: 'She must be selling something'/ 'What's her angle'/ where's the 'message'.   And yeah - you finally got me with that last one.
I DO have a message.  I have a purpose.  I feel it is a great injustice to adults and children alike to not experience the joys and excitement of time spent on the water.  When I was growing up, I had the absolute privilege to spend a lot of time in nature, with my siblings, on a small lake in Massachusetts and along the northern Maine coast.  I realize there are a heck of a lot of kids that will never share those joys and observations that my brothers and I got to experience every day all summer  long.  It gave me and my siblings a greater awareness of what is good in this world.  It made us aware that what we did mattered and had consequences.
I hope to dedicate this page and my efforts to being an 'enabler' (Oh my - that has a negative connotation - doesn't it?) Let's put a more positive spin on that - OK?  I hope to 'enable' kids/families to get out on the water and experience some of the wonderful things my siblings and I got to experience.   These experiences are priceless and irreplaceable.
There are many fishing clubs of all types across central NY that center around fishing.  If you have a competitive streak and a real willingness to absorb and learn, a fishing club might be just the place for your efforts.  This is where online searching will have good results - helping you to locate a geographically suitable club to join.  There are some that have Jr. member clubs also. You do not have to own a boat to be a member of most bass clubs. It is a great way to learn a LOT about fishing in a short time.  Joining a club is absolutely not necessary though.  Just getting out there spending time on the shore or water and learning from experience is just an awesome (and probably the best) way to teach yourself.
Another avenue to get into the outdoors are the various Sportsmans clubs in the area.  They all support the ALL the outdoor sports and area clubs are always looking for new members.

Look for us out on central NY waters this spring, summer, and fall! Hopefully we will be easy to spot - we will be the ones with the ear-to-ear smiles across our faces . . . . . . !
